Global LTE has come a long way in the past few years, and recent developments are continuing to pave the way for new technology.
At the beginning of 2015, experts predicted big things from carriers and carrier network performance (see Carriers Will Improve Network Performance for 2015).
According to recent data, there are currently 755 million total LTE connections globally. More specifically, North America increased its 4G connection base by 49 percent in the past year to reach 197 million, giving LTE a 47.5 percent share of the total cellular connections in the region at the end of the second quarter of 2015.*
Other notable statistics from the survey:*
- Worldwide LTE subscribers increased by 141 percent year over year, from 316.6 million in Q2 2014 to 755.2 million in Q2 2015.
- Latin America had the fastest growth in the past year, with a year-on-year increase of 324 percent, taking its total 4G connections from 5.3 million to 22.5 million.
- North America has the largest global market share of LTE (in other words, LTE makes up the largest percentage of total mobile connections in the region).
